Information Rehab

Maybe one reason that I am a happy person is because I don’t watch the news.
I know we’re in the information age and there’s no excuse for ignorance, but these days awareness is almost not productive. As citizens, I know we should be concerned about our country’s situation, but how can you do that when all you hear on the radio are some chismis about some actor and actress or the headline of a big newspaper is who the president is now dating.
The reason why I don’t watch the news on the television is because I would just fuss about how stupid our politicians are, or worry the rates of the criminality on the streets. Also, don’t forget how sleazy and corrupt those who are in power, and how I would curl in myself in bed in anguish just because some circumstances are beyond my control. I’d rather read through the internet, where I can choose what to read and not feel a touch of disappointment.
Yes, we should all make an effort to be informed, but do we really need to consider the president’s love life as an important one? Something to be put on a headline of a newspaper? Or the fights of two actresses? That we don’t really care about?
I know that not every piece of information will improve my life. Though I like to know pointless information- because you’re going to seem cool when you tell your friends about some kind of trivia. But you know, a headline is an important part of a newspaper. It’s what encourages people to actually read your article.
I’m not really sure what I’m meaning to tell in this post. But seriously, as much as I encourage myself to watch the news or read the newspaper, I’m stopping now. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.
