SWITCHFOOT LIVE IN MANILA!

Damn, it was such a beautiful and overwhelming concert. All my photos, videos, and words maybe can’t top what I just witnessed last night. It was such a good show, so alive, both the band and the crowd.

I love Switchfoot ever since their third album, “Learning To Breathe”. Their first album came out in 1997, and I was just five years old back then. I just knew them in the year 2000 and I’ve already fallen in love with them ever since. And, when you love a band that much, you can’t help but have high expectations. And astounding as it may seem, last night wasn’t just a good show- it was great. They played everything I wanted to hear like “Meant To Live”, “Gone”, and “The Beautiful Letdown”.

During the show, I was in complete mayhem. People were all singing with their lungs out, as if we were only one body. I had a good time getting infected with energy from the people surrounding the arena. After the show, I felt that I was in a complete disarray. My sister and I had to literally sit down on our chairs, stare at something, let ourselves get drowned in lethargy. Maybe because we were thinking about how glorious and beautiful it was that it had to end. My sister didn’t want to leave the place and she spent our ride back home watching the videos she took from her camera. The concert was breathtaking last night, and I am still in complete hang over. I can’t stop thinking about it.

Last night, I didn’t care if I can’t suck any more oxygen, or if my voice starts to crack. I didn’t care if I had troubles catching my breath as I sing along with the crowd. The energy was just there, circling around the arena.

My favorite part of the show is when Jon Foreman (vocals) asked the concert technicians to turn off all the lights in the arena. It was completely dark so you can barely see anything except the shadows on the faces of the audience. He asked us to hold our cameras up in the air as he counts to three. After counting to three, he asked us to take pictures, capture the moment in all the same time. When you look around the arena, you can see nothing but flickering lights everywhere triggered by the camera’s flashes. Can you imagine how beautiful that was? It was so damn beautiful I don’t even know how to describe it exactly. It was just really glorious.

The band was in every way brilliant. Seeing the audience sing passionately is a proof. They played 16 songs coming from their different albums although it was a bit predictable that their last song would be “Dare You To Move”. Nonetheless, last night was complete perfection, I think no one got disappointed once the band left the stage and the lights came back up.

I just decided to get my tickets two days before the show, and I’m actually glad I did. If I didn’t, I might be dying of regret by now because I will never know how incredible of a night I missed.

Anyway, here are some photos from last night:
