Foreign entertainment in the Phils.

I’m a big fan of music so whether it’s international or local music, I don’t discriminate. I have nothing against altering American music but when it’s all you hear on the radio, American songs remade by music artists (like Payong that was translated from Umbrella by Rhianna or Sundalong Bata from Soulja Boy), I can’t help but speculate about our song writers if they already have lost their faith in the authenticity of Filipino songs. If some time in the future when Filipinos stop making parodies of international music, I bet Filipino music will be a lot more competitive and music-worthy globally.

Aside from that, Asian dramas are already a hit in the Philippine mainstream entertaining millions of drama addicts. Try to name a popular Asian drama and I’ll bet you a peso there’s a Filipino remake of that series. Examples are Full House and Lovers in Paris. Though this remaking of American content is nothing new to the Philippines since they’re used to doing this since decades ago, it is still disturbing.  I wonder what’s happening to our own Filipino dramas? Teleseryes, anyone? I don’t watch the television that much and seeing Filipinos getting more addicted with what we call Koreanovelas and the like are just a bit frustrating. I just don’t understand why our media companies don’t showcase our own dramas with much pride like those that they remake.

It just upsets me Philippines don’t give importance that much with nurturing our local entertainment. Yeah, every couple of months they release a new Filipino drama with new artists but if you actually watch the television you’ll rarely see a Filipino artist singing a Filipino song. Try to watch ASAP or something, they’re full of American covers. Believe me.
