My thoughts concerning the RH Bill.

It’s just sad that this issue have dragged on for so long. The government should have imposed a time frame for gathering the opinions of Filipino people so they can start acting on it immediately. But honestly, what do you think? Is this RH Bill going to be beneficial to us or not?

I know we can’t deny it but the Philippines obviously have problems regarding over-population (even if it’s only in Manila), corruption, poverty and other concerns of the RH bill. Of course, the passage of this bill may not be a solution to all of our drawbacks but slowly, I believe it will help us build our nation for the benefit of all the present and future Filipinos.

This bill is being strongly opposed by the Catholic church and other concerned citizens that will go through great lengths just so this bill will not be enacted into a law. Sexual intercourse, according to the church, is by intent a life giving act not merely a form of physical pleasure. The Catholic church is not in favor of the RH bill because they believe that the implementation of artificial contraceptives can lead to promiscuity. They are also concurrent that the bill could be a procurer to eventual legalization of abortion and other practices conflicting to morality. I am not underestimating the power of the church nor taking their side lightly but I just really choose to be a supporter of this bill.

It’s time that we take matters into our own hands because this is our country’s future were talking about. It’s about time we say yes to natural and modern family planning, prevention of abortion and post-abortion complications, prevention and management of HIV and STDs, and RH education for the youth. This is what the RH Bill is for.

However, I’m not really sure why people are having a hard time choosing which side to take since the bill is easy to understand. Nevertheless, each one has its own opinion so I respect those who are against this issue. But come on! Don’t you think this bill is going to help us at all? We can no longer feed most of our people, provide jobs that match their education, annihilate poverty, and at least lower our crime rate which is a direct effect of what the bill is trying to address.

Wake up, people! The RH bill is not MAINLY for population control and the more important goal of this bill is to empower the Filipinos in exercising their freedom of informed choice and responsible parenthood and personally, I think and believe its a good thing.

So those who are against this bill, what really is your reason? If you really are claiming you are PRO-LIFE, I’m sure you have a clear idea of what it is like to live. Existence and life are two different things. Life is living in a normal way that includes activities of eating, working and enjoying the simple pleasures of life while existing is merely existing sometimes even accompanied by degrading activities like begging, stealing, and killing.

To all those who think this bill is purely evil, I will bet all my peso that you don’t know what it feels to go hungry for days, live under the bridges, and walk around Manila all day to ask for coins for food. You don’t know what it feels like to be stuck in poverty for the rest of your life because you can’t even get a vocational course because you are too poor to afford it.

I think that our generation, and probably the future should have the freedom of an informed choice, a choice that will take control of their own lives, a choice to decide the time they want to bear children and the type of contraceptive they are comfortable in using. I understand the church must keep or be in charge of morality but I believe its not something that can be enforced. It should be something an individual should be free to make.
